This is a rich, cheesy, and oh-so-easy fondue! Fun for parties and kids. Can also be prepared on the stovetop and kept warm in a crock pot.

ingredients

1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 jar (2 ounce size) minced pimentos
1/2 envelope dry onion soup mix
1 pound Velveeta cheese cut into 1/2-inch cubes

directions

Place the flour in the bottom of a fondue pot over medium heat. While stirring constantly, slowly add the milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.

Add the pimentos and onion soup mix. Mix until the soup dissolves.

Slowly add the cheese cubes in small batches, stirring constantly until the cheese has melted.

Reduce the heat to warm (the cheese shouldn't be bubbling but you also don't want it to thicken up too much if it gets too cool).

Use your favorite dippers such as French bread cubes, blanched broccoli or cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, cubed ham, etc.

Non-Stick Fondue Pot: For preparing and serving the cheesy fondue. The non-stick surface ensures easy cleanup and prevents the cheese from sticking.

Stove or Crock Pot: For cooking the fondue and keeping it warm for serving if using the crock pot or stovetop method. The fondue can be prepared on the stove and then transferred to a crock pot to maintain the ideal serving temperature.

Whisk or Wooden Spoon: For stirring the flour and milk mixture until thickened. A whisk helps prevent lumps in the fondue.

Knife: To cube the Velveeta cheese into 1/2 inch pieces for easier melting in the fondue.

Cutting Board: To safely cut and cube the Velveeta cheese on a stable surface.

Fondue Forks: For dipping the various dippers into the creamy cheese fondue. Each guest should have their own set of fondue forks for hygienic dipping.

Candles or Sterno: If using a traditional fondue pot that requires a heat source, candles or Sterno fuel can be used to keep the fondue warm during serving. Be cautious with the open flame around the cheese fondue.

    I make this as a dip just to snack on with bread. Sometimes I add some chopped ham (finely chopped or use flaked canned ham). Jalapaenos are good in it too!

    I know most grownups would probably turn their noses up at this being "fondue", but for kids, I have to say it was a hit. My kids are a little on the picky side but we're trying to teach them about different types of dishes. This was a great way to introduce them to how fondue is served and eaten, but with ingredients they would actually eat. Mostly they just used bread and ham cubes but they even tried the broccoli and cauliflower a couple of times. Had to convince them that tortilla chips weren't an acceptable dipper for this meal.
