Sweet Potatoes
6 large sweet potatoes, peeled and quartered
6 tablespoons butter
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup whole milk
1/2 cup real maple syrup
2 eggs, beaten
Spiced Pecan Streusel
6 tablespoons butter, softened
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup flour PLUS"PLUS" means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
2 tablespoons flour
1 1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
To make sweet potatoes: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-by- 13-inch baking dish; set aside.
In a large pot of water, bring sweet potatoes to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer 25 to 30 minutes until tender. Drain well.
Transfer potatoes to a mixer and add butter and salt. Mix until butter is melted. In succession, add milk, syrup and beaten eggs, beating potatoes between additions and scraping down sides of bowl.
Mix potatoes until smooth.
Transfer potato mixture to reserved baking dish and smooth the top. To make the topping: In a small bowl, mix butter, brown sugar, flour, pecans, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt well, then sprinkle evenly over potatoes.
Bake, uncovered, in preheated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes, until potatoes are hot through and streusel is toasted and crunchy.

This recipe was a big hit. It was simply yummy. I substituted Aunt Jemima's pancake syrup because I didn't want to pay more than $9 for a bottle of real maple syrup. I also used roasted pecans in the streusel. It turned out wonderful!

I have made this recipe for the past 2 Christmases and for potlucks. Everybody LOVES it!! My DH can't get enough of it! The only change I might make qould be to use a little less butter in the potatoes. Otherwise, DELICIOUS!!!

Made this yesterday for my Dad's birthday. Very well received; very popular. Made a small change to the recipe though - used only three very large sweet potatoes. Six wouldn't have fit in my casserole dish. Three did, but the strudel was piled above the edge and left a mess in the oven. Worth the cleanup, though! Give it a go - no regrets!

I made these last Thanksgiving and everyone absolutely loved them. My sisters said they never wanted the old recipe again. I plan to make them again this year. I even made them again at Christmas and again just because. Simply the best!

I made these this past Thanksgiving. Not only was the recipe easy, it was so delicious that when I asked if my guests would like to take home leftovers they asked for the sweet potatoes!! They were actually even tastier the next day when the topping and potatoes were mixed together. mm mm

I loved this dish. I had never made mashed sweet potatoes before so I was hoping to find a great recipe and I did. I did add 3 Tbls. of brown sugar and 1/8 tsp. of each nutmeg, Cinnamon and Cloves to the potatoes. The topping on this dish was so good I felt I was eating desert. Excellent!
